What Can I Use as a Pointer for a Prize Wheel?

My dad and I are building a prize wheel, and we have everything to build it. The only problem: what can we use as a pointer/needle? I am trying to have it a spring-loaded needle, but any material will do. Ideas? I am afraid to use rubber because of the friction. WILL a rubber pointer work?

I made a prize wheel for a charity event last summer and we used a spring door stop (the kind you'd screw into the wall behind a door to keep it from hitting the wall). We mounted it onto a small wood block and it worked perfectly because it was flexible but strong. Just make sure you glue on the plastic tip or it'll fly off after a few spins!!!

The simplest to use would be a plastic drinking straw fastened to the wheel. Attach it so it can be replaced if damaged.

You could cut one out of plastic like from the lid of a coffee can. May need more than one (glued together) to get the resistance you need. Connect it to a wood holder that is permanently mounted to the top of the wheels upright.
