How can i develop a 3 pointer stroke and soft touch?
I really am a mid range guy but i want to become a perimeter shooter.I want to develop a three pointer stroke. Sometimes when i shoot the three, my right hand gets involved (im lefty). I want to change that. Also it goes short or it goes too left or too right. I just want to know some ways to develop a consistent three point stroke and a soft touch.
Hey what's up dude, I feel you on that. I played two guard and I'm a left hand. it sounds like you don't have the control of the ball when you releasing the ball. my advice is to start praticing shooting the ball with your left hand.. and try to keep your right hand from getitng invovled. YOu need to attend a basketball camp or seek a coach that will show you how to shoot the ball the right way.
Now.. let me tell you how i became a better 3 point shooter. I praticed everyday.. for three hours. I made sure i hit 200 shots everyday from outside… You need to learn how to relax and shoot under pressure and stuff like that.

The simple answer is to practice more.
Keep shooting more three pointers.
If you need to, try lifting more weights as well. The shots are easier to throw if you're stronger.

Yeah, lifting weights helps because you need to be strong to push the ball forward. My teammate is one of the best 3-point shooters and basketball player I've ever played with. She ranked second in our league with 3-pointers and made 2nd-all team. She told me that she slowly worked her way backwards, shooting further and further. But before that, she worked on her form.
So I guess you should work on your form a little bit, then progress your way from mid-range to the perimeter. Good luck =]

Bad practice is worse than no practice. If you want a soft touch I suggest starting at about 3 feet from the rim and shooting with your right hand behind your back. It's impossible to have a touch from 19 feet 9 inches, if you can't have touch from 3 feet. When you can develop touch from 3 feet, take some steps back when you get a good touch from 6 feet, take some steps back etc… also a good anagram to remember is BEEF
B- Balance (balance the ball on your finger tips, not palm)
E- Elbow (keep your elbow tucked & at a 90 degree angle)
E- Eye (look at the front of the rim and place the ball over it)
F- Follow through (coach used to tell me when you're done shooting, it should look like you're picking a peach out of a basket)
extensive but it definitly helps

I sucked, Now i can shoot
*get your elbow (shooting arm) beneath the ball.
*splay your hands and use the middle of index and middle finger as sight.
*a wider stance gives you more balance on your release allowing you to square for your shot.
*putting a rotation and a higher arc on your shot ensures a softer touch.
*much of the power of the jumpshot comes from the feet when you jump. it doesn't mean you have to jump higher. rather, if you are able to transfer as much of that energy into your arm, the longer your range can be. your legs should act like a spring. using your legs more is also alot more comfortable than just using your arms.
*follow through on every shot.
hope they help.

Practice.
Make sure the technique is right (get coach to check), and find a court and just shoot a lot of threes until you can hit one consistently. I practiced a little and have a decent permeter jumper now.
