What does curling your pointer finger mean?

There's a girl at my school that pokes me with her pointer finer and then crooks/bends it (facing me) when she sees me. What does this mean?

Maybe is just a cute thing to do lol.

Will a laser pointer and protractor work instead of a refractometer?

I'm doing a science project on the index of refraction and I'm going to find the index of refraction of different liquids and solids. My teacher said I could use a laser pointer and a protractor to find it but I'm not sure if that's what I should do.

You'll need some other common stuff like paper, possibly a level, and a table to work on.. but sure.

How can I unfreeze my pointer on my computer?

My pointer is frozen in the middle of my screen. I have an external mouse that wont work, my touchpad doesnt work, and restarting the computer doesn't unfreeze it. Everytime I turn it back on the pointer is still stuck in the same place. I've tried shutting down and popping out the battery too, but nothing is working. Please help if you can.

If both your touchpad pointer and mouse are broken…

Then your pointer shouldn't be able to move?

Duh? It's not frozen or anything..

Unless you now have a working mouse / touchpad.

If it still does not move, your worst fears may be true..

Your USB Port…Is Broken!

Dun Dun Dun.. /dramatic music

Green Laser Pointers - Which One Should I Choose?

Just by typing in the word "laser pointer" into google's search engine, you will find hundreds of laser pointer companies out there. Some have very attractive websites with very high prices. Some laser pointers offer the same functions and power but are much cheaper. It's all very confusing especially when you don't understand what all the terms mean. You're about to spend a good amount of money on a laser pointer, the least you should is do some research before choosing the right laser and right company for your needs.

The first thing you will notice about high powered green laser pointers is they are always categorized by power. This is the number with "mW" at the end. mW stands for milli-watts and is 1/1000 of a watt, that is, 1000mW is 1W. You will also see another number associated with green laser pointers. This number has "nm" at the end. This stands for nano-meters and is used to measure wavelength. You really don't have to look into this number too much as all green laser pointers have a wavelength of 532nm. Pretty much, when you see 532nm, you should automatically think of the color green.

Now, lets focus on power. This is probably the most important factor because the more power you buy, the more money you spend. Yes, power is expensive! You need to ask yourself, what are you buying this laser pointer for? I think I can categories this into 3 types of lasers.

The first type, you're looking to buy something for everyday use. You're a teacher, professor, or someone always doing presentations in large groups. You are looking to use the green laser pointer as a "pointer". Good, I can make the decision for you now. Get a 5mw green laser pointer. While you could buy something more powerful, I wouldn't suggest getting anything over 20mW if pointing is all you will be doing. 5mW is for small classroom pointing, 20mw is for longer distance pointing as in an auditorium. Now, I'm talking about real laser pointers, that is, don't buy from ebay or any auction sites. Their advertised output is usually fake. If you buy a 5mW, you'll probably end up with a 1-2mW green laser. You can search the term "Skylasers" in google, they are a good reputable company.

Now, the second type is looking for a visible beam green laser pointer. First question, are you looking to burn or melt anything with it? If you answer is no, stick with a green laser pointer between 20mW to 80mW. During the day, these lasers have a very bright end dot (the laser beam is not visible). Realize that you will not find a laser pointer with a visible beam during the day. At night, however, a 20-80mw green laser is very bright! Yes, amazingly bright! This is where I ask, how much do you plan on spending? The more power you buy, the brighter the laser pointer. On a personal note, I would recommend a 40 - 60mW green laser pointer if all you want is a bright beam. The 20mW is still slightly dim for me. 40mW to 60mW green laser pointers go for around $100-$150. If you have the money, go for the 80mW, you will notice the difference in brightness. I just think 40mW - 60mW is plenty bright though.

If you are looking to burn and melt with this laser, you need something above 100mW. Want to see laser pointers in action? Simple, go to youtube and search for "lasers". You will find green laser pointers from various companies lighting cigarettes, popping balloons, etc. There are some very cool videos out there. The question now is, what do you want to burn? Again, the more power you have, the faster your laser will burn and melt. You can buy green laser pointers with more then 500mw these days that could cost you a pretty penny. It's really up to you as to how much you want to spend. If burning is your thing, look around for reliable companies and compare prices. Buy something you are comfortable with spending.

There are several laser pointer forums out there that can be very resourceful to you. Stick with www.laserpointerforums.com, www.photonlexicon, and www.candlepoweredforums.com. These forums have a good following and members are generally very eager to answer your questions. I suggest staying away from www.lasercommunity.com, this forum is very tightly monitored and is run by a laser company. They do not allow members talking about other laser companies…

What is the temper of a German Wirehaired Pointer?

I'm planning on getting a German Wirehaired Pointer and would like to know the general temper of the breed. Help would be greatly thanked.

I have a german wirehaired pointer. I found her in the local pound when she was about 8 months old. That was 7 years ago. They can be stubborn but soft so heavy handed training techniques doesn't work on them very well. I have found mine to be very loyal with a great sense of humor. They can be quite independent especially in the field but they don't range as far as german shorthairs or english pointers. They are very versatile as being quite good in upland and water fowl hunting as well as in other dog sports like agility. Some can be quite sharp when it comes to cats and other furry animals. So be careful if you have cats especially with a rescue. Some GWPs are cat killers.

How come when I shine a laser pointer through my finger I can see light come through but not bone?

This may be a really dumb question but I've always been curious about this.

When I shine a laser pointer through my finger I can see the light coming through but I can't see any bones.

The only things I can think of is that the bones are thinner than I think, but how dense are bones that light would be able to shine through?

Thanks!

The laser light is refracted and diffused through the soft tissue. That's not a dumb question at all; that's the kind of curiosity that is very, very useful in life. Without curiosity there is no drive to find out "why…?" and there are just far too many interesting things in life to wander around content in ignorance. Every good scientist worth his or her salt has that same innate curiosity. :)

Nba Live - Allen 3 Pointer Gives Boston Its 12th Win

Philadelphia's shooting guard Andre Igoudala had just hit a fade away jumper for a live basketball score of 99-97 lead for the Sixers who had the lead the entire fourth period except during the final buzzer. Pierce actually did all the work as a decoy when he pump-faked a defender, then dribbled towards the top of the three point arc then passed the ball to Allen who waited for the pass.

The Celtics' three point specialist promptly sank another as he stunned the Sixers. Kevin Garnett missed the action for a second straight playing day but it did not matter that much as Garnett's big two pals Allen and Pierce proved that the duo were better than any other team's five. The Celtics cope well without Garnett in the line up as the team have won eight straight games without him and are 12-2 without Garnett dating back to the last season. Pierce had 29 points while Allen had 23 points and was 5-for-7 from the field in the fourth quarter. He scored 12 of his points in the last quarter.

Glenn Davis added 12 points and 11 rebounds for a double-double. Philadelphia lost a fourth quarter lead for the second straight time and now are two games under .500 after they made a surge to push their win-loss record in an even rate. They held off the Celtics for nearly the entire fourth period but Pierce gave his best to keep the Celtics in the game until the end. In one instance, he converted a three point play, then attempted a beautiful twisting, off-balanced running shot that decreased the deficit to 92-90 with 2:42 seconds left. He committed his fifth foul though on a Lou Williams' lay up with the ball going in the basket. Williams made his bouns free throw to give the Sixers a five point lead once again.

Davis made a wide open 17 foot jumper to make the score at 95-92. Pierce then was fouled and sank the two free throws awarded to him and cuts the lead down to one at 95-94. Igoudala's jumper with 6.8 seconds appeared to put the Sixers safely out of reach. He had Pierce guarding him and was able to escape while dribbling and hit the fade away jumper just above the free throw line. The Sixers celebrated wildly on the bench as he pumped his fists at his teammates. He top scored for the Sixers while Andre Miller had 21.

Philadelphia did not receive any major production from Elton Brand when they made their run. Brand suffered a dislocated right shoulder in december and appears to not have fully recovered from it. He played wearing a protective cover over his shoulder and was scoreless in only 8 minutes of action as he came off the bench.
